What is a School Counselor?
A school counselor is a certified professional who is trained at the graduate level in counseling and consulting practices and has in depth knowledge of human development, helping relationships, social/cultural foundations, group processes, testing and assessment, career development, and the school setting. The mission of the school counselor in the Wake County Public School System is to provide a comprehensive continuum of support services that positively impact the personal, academic, and career development of the whole child within the school, family, and the community.
